How good is
our air?
Florida Frogman takes its air quality seriously! In order to
produce high quality air you need 3 high quality components.
First and foremost, the source of our air going into our compressor
is from a smoke-free, low dust, low moisture and temperature
controlled environment. Secondly, to compress and pump our air
we use a Bauer high pressure breathing-air compressor (regarded
as one of the best in the breathing-air industry). Finally, before
entering your tanks (and ours) the compressed air is filtered
by the most expensive and safety oriented system available, a
Bauer "Securus" electronic analyzing filter. This filter
monitors moisture content and Carbon Monoxide trace gases and
will shut the compressor off, before allowing it to pump such
contaminates.

our self-imposed and voluntary air analysis test results. As
being a source of air for Dade County Police Divers, Dade County
Fire/Rescue Divers, United Parcel Service Haz-mat Responders
and many other Commercial and Public Safety teams, we are proud
to display (and offer for you to print out) copies of our air
test results.

Free Air Fills?
Every retail business has its "loss leader", its
come on, its get-'em-in-the-door gimmicks. For the local
dive industry
it has been free air fills with the purchase of a scuba tank.
Believe it or not, air cost money! A quality high pressure
air compressor, the filtration system and proper maintenance
are
not inexpensive. Florida Frogman's "system" was
an initial cost of over $20,000.00 and yearly maintenance
averages
$1,000.00. Ironically, the scuba tank it self is a loss leader
in as much as the average mark-up is less than 15%. Since
Florida Frogman opened its doors in 1989, at least 5 dive
businesses
that offered "free air" have gone out of business.
Florida Frogman does not subscribe to this practice. We do,
however, place great emphasis on honesty, professionalism
and customer
satisfaction. It is our belief that this philosophy will
allow us to serve you for many years to come.
Air Fill Policy & Pricing FILL POLICY The safety of our staff
and you, our customer is the highest priority with regard to
filling high pressure cylinders. In light of the 2 Scuba cylinder
explosions in the South Florida area (while being filled) during
the late 1990's, Florida Frogman strictly abides by and promotes
safe filling practices. Our fill rate is 300psi (or less) per
minute. We do not use a water bath to "cool" tanks
as they are being filled. If filled at a rate of 300psi (or
less) there is not a sufficient amount of friction created
(heat) that
would require cooling of a cylinder.
Water is an enemy and a
contaminating of cylinders and should not be close to the inlet/opening
of a cylinder valve while
being filled (besides it makes a mess). Florida Frogman
will only fill
cylinders that meet all legally required and industry recognized
guidelines. All cylinders must have a current and clearly
legible Hydrostatic Test Stamp/Date. In addition, for Steel
cylinders
and Aluminum cylinders less than five years of age, a current
Visual Inspection decal must be present. For Aluminum cylinders
that are 6+ years of age, proof of "Eddy Current" electronic
crack detection [Visual Plus, Flare Tec., etc.] must also be
present. All cylinder valves must be in good working order and
have a multi-directional style "burst disc" installed.
All cylinders must have residual air inside. "Empty" cylinders
require an informal internal inspection (no decal applied)
at a cost of $5.00.
All cylinders will be filled
to their designated working pressure. We do not over fill.
All persons requesting Scuba
cylinder
fills must have proof of Certification.
